SECOND ANTIETAM CREEK CLEANUP SET FOR SEPTEMBER 22 HAGERSTOWN, Md. _ Members of the public are invited to join scores of Boy Scouts, students and other volunteers Sept. 22, 2007, in cleaning up Antietam Creek. The Antietam Creek Watershed Alliance’s second annual Rubbish Round-Up will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., starting at American Legion Post 211 in Funkstown along Alt. U.S. 40. Participants should wear river shoes or waders and clothing appropriate for wet, dirty work. Bring a boat and life jackets if you can. Volunteers and St. James School students will work near the dam off Mount Aetna road in Hagerstown. Boy Scouts will clean up five other sites. Commemorative bandanas and patches will be awarded. 3> Participants last year filled a dump truck to overflowing with trash including shopping carts, tires, inflatable pool toys and small appliances. Major sponsors include River and Trail Outfitters, the City of Hagerstown, American Legion Post 211, Washington County Public Schools and the Maryland State Highway Administration.
